About this piece: Noel Gallagher and his brother Liam Gallagher, of British rock group Oasis pose in Manchester City football shirts on May 9, 1994. The English rock band is known for its influence on the “Britpop” era of the 1990s and is among the most successful acts to come out of the UK.
One of the world’s most esteemed photographers, Cummins honed his skills over four years before immersing himself in Manchester’s thriving punk scene of the 1970s. Over the following decades, he captured iconic images of Joy Division, took live shots and portraits of David Bowie, and created a legendary NME cover featuring The Stone Roses. Cummins’ photographs have graced magazine covers, been showcased in art galleries and international films, and are part of esteemed collections at The National Portrait Gallery and the V&A, among other institutions.
