David Bowie at Tea & Sympathy, 1997 — Limited Edition Print

About this piece: David Bowie stands in front of legendary British-themed restaurant Tea & Sympathy in New York City in 1997. The photo was taken a during the singer’s 50th birthday and concert at Madison Square Garden and was part of a session for an NME magazine cover.

One of the world’s most esteemed photographers, Cummins honed his skills over four years before immersing himself in Manchester’s thriving punk scene of the 1970s. Over the following decades, he captured iconic images of Joy Division, took live shots and portraits of David Bowie, and created a legendary NME cover featuring The Stone Roses. Cummins’ photographs have graced magazine covers, been showcased in art galleries and international films, and are part of esteemed collections at The National Portrait Gallery and the V&A, among other institutions.
