About this piece: Grace Jones (1985) – clay sculpture cast in acrylic resin by Guy Portelli. The robotic and futuristic portrait of Grace Jones has both references to Pop Art and science fiction. Cast in translucent acrylic resin it both reflects it’s surroundings as well as refracting the images through it.
Egyptian art, spirituality and a physical stillness are inherent influences. This is an early piece that Guy sculpted back in 1985.

Guy Portelli, a British sculptor born in South Africa in 1957, moved to England in 1969. He studied art and design at Medway College of Art before honing his focus on sculpture at Chelsea Art College. A recipient of prestigious honours such as the UBS Sculpture Award and the NADFAS London Sculpture Award, Portelli is celebrated for combining traditional craftsmanship with bold, contemporary cultural themes—earning him a place among Britain’s most distinctive sculptors.
