About this piece: Kate Bush poses in a red parachute jumpsuit during a photoshoot in London in 1978. The English singer-songwriter rose to fame at the age of 19 with her album Wuthering Heights that would make her the youngest female artist to achieve a UK number one with a self-written song.
Gered Mankowitz, son of author Wolf Mankowitz and psychotherapist Ann Mankowitz, left school at 15 and began a photography apprenticeship inspired by actor Peter Sellers. In 1963, he opened his first studio in Mason’s Yard, the heart of 1960s London. He photographed Marianne Faithfull in 1964 and began working with The Rolling Stones in 1965, touring the U.S. and creating iconic album covers. In 1967, he captured legendary portraits of Jimi Hendrix during two sessions at his studio that would go on to become some of the most iconic and widely-known portraits of the great musician.
